I don't understand why this is labeled " funny interview " because he's being honest . I hope it's a long long time before he retires and becomes a commentator , because I would rather watch him race , but wouldn't you rather hear him call a race than a waltrip , or Jarret ? Maybe the networks should hire him for the truck or nationwide races .

Why is that called a funny compilation of interviews? When and where did he say anything that anyone other than himself thought was funny? Same guy who said a few weeks ago that Brad K. had a death wish when he raced 5 time hard. Has there ever been anyone more full of themselves since Dale Sr. than the self proclaimed " Smoke?"

I agree. I really like guys that are not robotic like Jimmie's Johnson but this guy is a complete Richard Cranium.

Hello my name is Tony.....aka....get out of my way I'm on the track.....how dare you race me hard.....that guy should be racing go karts....I say what I want, interrupt who I want, insult who I want, including sponsors who put up money so I can race for millions......I can grab someone elses wife's a$$ for all the world to see because I am who I am....self proclaimed " Smoke" Stewart. DH all the way.

I've been a Stewart fan since he was in sprint cars. But he became my favorite driver when I first saw him do a post-race interview. Sure, he says a lot of stupid things, but so do 90% of the guys I race with every week. I was (relatively)famous for it when I got started and still have my moments. I completely understand where he's coming from most of the time. I've never met a driver that's ever made a mistake and I've met plenty that talk like that just to get people going. Why would that change just because someone got famous?
He's an insanely good driver and a pretty good businessman, but he acts like he's just a normal Saturday night racer like us. I may not be able to drive anywhere near as well as he can but I can still identify with him. That's why I'm a fan. I can respect the talent of a lot of other Cup drivers but he's one of the few I'd go have a beer with.
And I'll be happy to see him in the booth someday because he can speak English...

There are drivers and there are racers. Jeff Gordon is a driver, Tony Stewart is probably the most talented racer of our time. But Tony Stewart is also the biggest ego maniac of our time. He ripped apart nearly every driver except Danica (gee, I wonder why?), he ripped apart the press, he ripped apart the track crew, he ripped apart Good Year, he ripped apart Waltrip, he ripped apart Pepsi and he ripped apart Bill France.

In a world of cookie-cutter PC performers willing to kiss any and all a$$ in the business of motorsports, I give him respect for speaking his mind. He was extremely pleasant when I spoke with him at CMP, but I wasn't fauning all over him because he's Tony Effing Stewart. That night, he WAS just another Saturday night racer, and that's what he likes. (Now, it goes without saying the money and notoriety are helpful in getting dinner reservations, I'm sure...)
He can wheel anything on dirt or asphalt. I'd probably let him land my plane in an emergency. But I agree he has a tendency to be less than flattering on occasion, specifically with women. (Danica doesn't stand a chance. She's not blonde enough for him.)

KT: you may be on to something; you both race hard and don't hold back when it comes down to "bench racing"--the only difference I can see is that you didn't ever have a microphone stuck in your face during the heat of battle", especially if you just got wrecked! (I think I would have been "skerred" as you like to put it, if I had to be the one holding the mic, although it would have been wildly entertaining!) This is one of the unique aspects of "our" sport vs. any other. I can't imagine the kind of stuff we would get from the normal "weekend warrior", if they were interviewed immediately following a bad night...using some of this obviously biased footage to criticize him is grossly unfair; it's taken out of context, especially the one from the "Nextel" season. For my money, he is as hard of a racer as they come I really like and respect him and IMHO his driving titles (both in and out of NASCAR) has earned him the right to speak his mind; plus don't forget, now that he is a car owner himself, the frustrations of having his car wrecked only adds to the situation; as has been mentioned during the course of this thread, A.J. Foyt was his biggest idol; now, THAT man really knew how to ruffle the media's feathers and never cared about any negative press he might receive from it. During my "tenure" as an announcer, Stewart was one of my easier interviews; he never showed any disrespect toward me, even though I was a "nobody" in the media arena--and yes. he never held back (which, from my side of the mic, was a breath of fresh air compared to many other drivers.) If he's such a bad guy, why do many on here get absolutely giddy when it's known that Tony has been at Black Rock or any other regional track, especially if he actually drives in the event? BTW The "hardest" interview I ever conducted was with the normally mild mannered Matt Kenseth at Homestead-Miami one year. But since the main focus of this thread is about Stewart, you'll have to ask me in person sometime about that one...I am very interested to hear Ron Hill's take on this topic; How 'bout it, Ron???

Paz, the funniest thing is - he rides around the pit area at these local appearances like he's just nother racer! That's what I like about him. I have no use for arrogance, and unlike some others because I respect his opportunity to be kind of anonymous. Let the man race. At the end of the night, he is more than willing to sign autographs, take photos, et al.

When his WoO sprint cars race at Volusia every year, very few people will get to see him; he comes to watch his team(s) compete--it's NOT an autograph session, which most regular fans want it to be and that gets twisted sometimes (unfairly!) Fans can't have it both ways--complain he's too arrogant and others support him no matter what. You can count me as in the latter! In the past, he has attended races at both Black Rock and Canandaigua during Glen NASCAR weekends. Even if it's actually a "paid" appearance to be there, it is well known he would rather be at the wheel racing ANYTHING!!!He bought Eldora--how bad can he be??? GEESH!
