SGI crankshafts?

Star Galaxy (even sounds chinese) on fleabay has forged steel cranks that look to me alot like the lower level Competition Products ones, but about $100 cheaper. We have a $1000 claim on the motor, local engine guy of course said it's junk, buy a crower, but he wanted more than the claim is for just the crank... yaaay.

For an asphalt mod, running a restricted top end, would these work? Anyone have any experience with them? We run a cast iron head, restrictor plate (1.125" openings) under a holley 4412. Everything else is the same as a SK type mod. I'm looking to put together a decent setup without building a grenade, or falling into the trap of a $12500 motor like the local guy quoted, for a limited class. Anyone use these, or a different manufacturer under $500 for a 3.480 51lb or heavier forged crank? We just cant find unmolested GM castings anymore. Track wants to change to 602 crates next year. Have everything but the crank, and don't want to change directions right now.

the 4340 scat cranks are ok and the hawk cranks have been ok I would stay away from eagle it is rugged but the demensions can be way off causing alot of time and machine work wich adds cost to the engine build which defeats the cost savings of the crank. Alot of the forgings come from across the way but some are machined in the us and are ok like callies compstar etc i have also seen the lunati slegehammer and howards line in that price range 500-600 mark if you keep them in the 7200 to 7500 rpm range you should be ok.  I have run the callies and turned it to 7900 and no problems and the demensions were excellent right out of the box. I have seen them on ebay for around 600.00 hope this helps ps I would prob stay away from the sgi crank

I would call them up, they have a phone number and are machined in the US. If its 4130 forged, and it meets you specs. It's no different that buying a scat or eagle. It's going to better than stock and they seem willing to work with buyers on machining what you want.

They're machined in the USA???? Yeah the off the shelf one fits my needs, doesnt need to be a custom stroke. Thanks! Have you used them?

Found this posted on another forum (take it for what it's worth):

Star Galaxy makes rods and cranks for a lot of the private label stores like ProPower, Probe, Wheeler, Herbert, KMJ, and several others I can't remember at the moment. Quality is about the same as Eagle, so like Eagle have them checked for tolerance, taper, and sizing by a machine shop before you just throw them in an engine.

I've read their descriptions, sounds similar to most others. I just was wondering if anyone has thried this brand and found them to be useable out of the box, or do they have finish and taper issues?

I know I'm late on this subject, but all cranks need to be checked. For the HP level that you are at a cast crank will work fine. If worried about cast get a Scat 9000 series. Budget being an issue that would be your best value. 50Ibs, around 240.00 and rated to 550 hp

Actually, I ended up with a RPM machine crank for $290 delivered. It suprisingly checked out ok, although I am not holding my breath for such luck when they balance it. It holds the line on costs this year, and hopefully will last. Next year is either the 602 crate, or part time in a higher division (same chassis).
Crank was on sale for april, and is a one piece seal unit. Luckily I can use it.
