Remember when raceny was a website with just 2 pages and no one complained?  now half the time when you post something it gets moved or locked because someone has their panties in a bunch.  I hate to say it, but i spend more time frustrated on here wondering "whats thr big deal?" than reading the threads.  I remember when i started coming here if i didnt care about a thread, i didnt read it.  i didnt go cry to the raceny police.  I am humored that it took 11 months and 210 pages of replies for one thread to get moved, almost as if to say "this thread is too popular, better get it off our most used page.  Im going to start using other message boards more.

Here's the deal:  I remember people posting civilized, informative and mature posts on this site, as well--The panties all in a bunch reference is exactly the kind of BS that is not needed up here; I went to a James Bond movie tonight--I was gone for no more than three hours when I got not 1, not 2 but 10 complaints, and whattya know, they're all about the same topic...in regards to the silly Word association topic, it started out OK, but then goes in the toilet by people responding to an "F", followed by a "U" then a "C" and you know the other one, it's outta control. I moved it to put an end to this schoolyard game but if someone really wants to continue this nonsense, all they gotta do is one, simple little mouse click to play a silly word game.  I don't want my actions to chase you or anyone else but given a choice,I'd rather lose one than 10, anytime...not to mention those who have emailed me(especially females, saying they were interested in becoming a member until they saw the immature garbage posted up here...but hey, I'm only human so feel free to PM admin if you disagree with my actions. He has given me a set of guidelines which he wants me to go by--and that's what I do; and yes, there has been some times where he's had to "rein me in"! I can't win no matter what I do. I get complaints about too little or no action taken and then I get accused of too much reaction (like you believe happened here).  I will always err on the side of caution when it comes to posts that I feel "cross the line"...The "Danica" posts extremely crossed that line with sexual innuendo and downright nastiness.  So if you really feel that strongly as to make the decision to leave, keep in mind there are many others out there who disagree with you, as evidenced by the numerous complaints received on 1 topic alone.  My intent is to do the best job I can to keep things in order up here; here again, you can do me as favor and request admin to have me removed; I can live without all the drama myself!

It's a shame, I didn't see anything in either locked thread to cause it to be locked. No fighting, no swearing, nothing. Someone must be a Danica fan and doesn't like us picking on her. I run a forum with over 8,000 members and I can't remember when the last time that we locked a thread, other than informational threads. It's easier to remove the offending post than ruin it for everyone else.

Dam, Just like 4 yrs ago. I was wrong. I am probably the worst offender on the Phsyco Thread. I agree with the MAN most of the time, but now I think you are wrong. "JMO"

Well, Ernie, tell me if you've made any decisions in your position as moderator/admin which met with approval all across the board...removing a thread doesn't solve anything, either. Been there, done that! The interesting thing about the claim that "I don't read anything I'm not interested in" is by itself, contradictory.  How would anyone know about any decision that was made regarding a topic if they didn't read it? Give me an answer on that one...

Please explain to me how the direction each of the Danica threads was informative or contained nothing wrong when sexual innuendos are somehow considered a positive discussion.  10 complaints in 3 hours about the same topic--even from those who have expressed very little support for Ms. Patrick in the past!

Jerry: send me a PM to explain how and where I screwed up!  Anyone else is also invited to do the same any time on any topic...Damned if I do, screwed if I don't. It's a no win situation! Here's a copy-and-paste of some of the complaints I received with no names mentioned:

"check this thread out , a little off topic & off color !"

"These comments make raceny look childish and sick"

"Hope none of her young fans come to this board !"

"Wonder why theres only 1 female on this board".

There were numerous others expressing similar feelings--what would you do? Seriously???

Removing the offensive post is a lot better than removing and/or locking the whole thread. Let me ask you this, if you're driving down the road and a bird craps on your windshield, do you clean the bird crap off or do you get rid of the car?

Remember when everyone was not so anxious to be a victim?  Remember when everyone was not in such a hurry to be offended?

I guess it is just easier to be a victim anymore.

Ernie: Removing the "offensive post" doesn't change the end result, it's still the same.  The author still feels it's somehow personal; then others pile on.  Complaints still continue for doing nothing or doing too much!

To continue using your analogy, I'd rather use the washer fluid along with the wipers!

Not that the Moderator needs support, but I think he did the right thing.  I didn't complain, but I am always disappointed when I see adult males of the species trapped in a seventh grade time warp.  If we can't do better than that, then we truly need adult supervision.

Paz,

You and I have discussed (via PM) this topic before. My suggestion is to make everyone sign their real name or have an account with their real name. This would stop alot of the negative comments because people would realize how it will make them look.

Since I always sign my name to every comment that I post, I am much more selective about what I contribute. I have written many argumentive posts, but end up deleting them because I can't sign my name at the bottom.

I know it may not be an easy fix, but it definitely (IMO) would reduce the problem being debated in this thread.

Sincerely,
Brent Cross

Well I for one read this site less and less. moved threads, locked threads what ever. I read the threads I want to read. If a thread has been posted by some, I know it is most likely not worth reading. and SKIP IT. Even if there is something I see in a thread I still can skip that one post If the person you feel is not posting up to a standard then deal with the one poster.  If you react to everyone who has a beef about something then your day will be filled with whiners who feel this and that, and they know they will get there way. like a bunch of kids trying to get the other kid in trouble.  If your going to get a change it has to be dealing with the people who are not going the way ADMIN wants this site to go. some times in this world people need thick skin and learn how to let things slide.

I remember when -
it was respectful to open the door for others before you entered
it was polite to say please and thank you
it was disrespectful to talk back to your elders
it was not heard of to swear or cuss in front of women
men were men and women were women (no in between or switching roles)
mom and dad knew best and you listened to them
you looked people in eye when you passed and said "hello how are you?"
TV and computers were just something to watch or play when the weather was bad outside
people actually talked or discussed issues in person or on the phone
you said the "Pledge of Allegiance" to the flag of the United States of America
you took off your hat and put your hand over your heart when the Star Spangled Banner played.
Thanksgiving was for family and feast. Over the mountain and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go.
We fought against a common enemy and worked together.
when you didn't have anything good to say about others you just didn't say it
Oh how times have changed

This message board has a lot of the same attitude toward its users as Nascar did a few years back toward their loyal fans.  We don't care what our existing users are all about we need to go after this huge user base which isn't actively participating in our site.  That attitude has worked really well for Nascar, hasn't it?
