Since I wasn't there, I can't honestly pass judgement, but it sounds like an issue with the race car, itself, was the primary cause of the issue, followed by the lack of proper fire fighting methodology by track personnel. In the picture that I saw, the race car appeared to be some sort of Chevrolet, in which case, the fuel line most likely would be routed down the right hand side of the car, because Chevy engines have their fuel pumps on the right front corner of the engine. Therefore, I wonder what could have been so flammable on the left rear, that would cause the entire car to catch fire. (maybe a poorly routed vent tube, from the fuel cell?)
