I can not believe what i witnessed Friday night when i watched a race car burn to the ground at the hands of a track crew that obviously needs more training on how to deal with such an emergency.I thought it would have been nice if the track could take up a collection for the young man who lost his car to the flames.

"Bozo", I did a search, and found a picture of the car on fire, on one of the chat sites, but no details were posted, other than the driver was gotten out of the car with only minor burns (thankfully). However, there have been no details posted, as to what happened. Do you have any idea of what caused this? Was the car involved in some sort of crash, or did it rather suddenly develop a mechanical issue, which caused a massive fuel leak? This isn't supposed to happen with a properly installed/functioning fuel cell.....

The left rear wheel was on fire going into turn 3 and then the big fire erupted when the car stopped on the front straight. One member of the ROC track crew pulled the driver to safety thank GOD and thanks for his heroic efforts.I believe you wont hear much more about the incident as it already seems to be swept under the rug.The ROC only wants good publicity not bad.

Since I wasn't there, I can't honestly pass judgement, but it sounds like an issue with the race car, itself, was the primary cause of the issue, followed by the lack of proper fire fighting methodology by track personnel. In the picture that I saw, the race car appeared to be some sort of Chevrolet, in which case, the fuel line most likely would be routed down the right hand side of the car, because Chevy engines have their fuel pumps on the right front corner of the engine. Therefore, I wonder what could have been so flammable on the left rear, that would cause the entire car to catch fire. (maybe a poorly routed vent tube, from the fuel cell?)

Apparently in response to the unfortunate incident, mentioned above, there was a full fire crew and fire engine, at the track for last night's (8/4/23) show.
