FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY READY FOR 72ND CONSECUTIVE SEASON OPENER THIS SATURDAY. RACING SET TO BEGINS AT 6:05 P.M.

KIRKWOOD, NY…The 72nd Consecutive Official Season Opener is set to take place this Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway. The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will headline a busy schedule of racing that is set to get underway at 6:05 p.m.

The speedway held the “pre-season” Spring Championship Series during the month of April. Two of the five schedule races were cancelled due to weather conditions. One Modified event was held during the month and may have served as a preview of the upcoming regular season. Like last year Nick Rochinski opened the Modified campaign with a feature win in the Southern Tier Open back on April 24th. This Saturday the Regular Season Point Championship will get underway. Last year, Rochinski came up one position short in the final point standings. He will be looking to top that in 2022.

Brett Tonkin captured his first ever Five Mile Point Speedway Modified Track Championship in 2021. This year Tonkin will be racing with a teammate in Dan Vauter. Vauter was the 2003 Modified Track Champion and will certainly be a contender for the 2022 title. Two-time Modified Track Champion Brian Malcolm will be looking to secure his third Modified Track Championship. Malcolm was in contention for the 2021 title right until the Season Championship event that saw him involved in a wreck. It will be a wide open Modified Track Championship hunt this season.

Gary Smith will be looking for his third consecutive Crate Sportsman Track Championship this season. Smith already has compiled on win this season in the Spring Championship Series. Young talent Seth Zacharias will be looking to contend for the title after his Spring Series Point Championship.

The Modfieds and Sportsman will be joined by the Street Stocks, 600 Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Futures Sportsman and FWD Four Cylinder Experts and Novice. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with racing set to get underway at 6:05 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $12, seniors are $10 with youth only $5. Kids 8 years old and younger are admitted into the grandstand free of charge weekly.
