Cliff Kotary - The Copper City Cowboy

A very sad loss. Mixed emotions as I think about him leaving us, but at the same time, a smile to my face as I think of the memories as a kid and the stories Mom shared when I told her about his passing. I will try to get up some photos I have. RIP Cliff

Racing Genius
Sad to here this. Cliff was probably the best known of the racing Kotary clan from Rome, NY. They were likely over shadowed by Rome's two other
racing greats but were champs non the less. I never saw Cliff, Tom or Robbie race (that I can remember) but do remember Dave and Geno of a later generation. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Read a little about Cliff and some of the other greats from the "Golden Age" of local racing.

That picture of Roger Treichler and Richie (maybe 1969??) reminds me of the attraction to racing in my youth -- the individual innovation and having to build everything yourself.
Today's race car industry is a far cry from where things were when this picture was taken.

Thanks for the memory!

Saw his obit in today's paper. Cliff and the Kotary's were occassional Spencer competitors. Got to see him once at U-R and I recall at a couple other special shows. Was definitely part of my youthful bliss with the mods. Was glad to see so many racing organizations honored the man as well. Thanks Cliff
