Andy Romano's #97 Valiant came before Lou Lazzaro's #4 Lancer. I've posted pictures of both cars in the Oldies But Goodies section on here.

OMG ! LOOK @ that 1970 Pocono MOD Championship Pic /\ thats just over the top...id give about anything to have been filling a seat @ that race

Concerning that Pocono race in the summer of '70: I KNOW that MT had and independent front on his new Falcon for that race. I can clearly see from the photo that the #09 did not...........MH seemed to know the history of the #99 Valiant and says it was built over the winter of '69-'70, the same time MT started building his. It seems likely that Geoff got his done first.................................kt

KT, Geoff's car used a Scout chassis, what did Maynard use for the Falcon? Was it a homemade front clip, what chassis did the car have?

Pretty sure MT used a scout frame also......I also believe the #99 Valiant evolved into the Vega.............

Alan and KT,

The Bodine Valiant became the Vega when it was re-skinned for the Modified Race on the road course at Daytona in February of 1974.

I was at that race and took this picture.

In order to date this story... I was at a Sunday afternoon Mod show at Chemung. All I remember is that Don Whalen drove a candy cane painted Monza that broke a driveshaft and pole vaulted on the home stretch. Maybe somebody can figure out the year. It was there that I asked Brett Bodine about Geoffs Vega and took me a few miles up Rt17c and beside an old barn/garage sat Geoff's Vega. The running gear was gone and it was pretty grown over with brush. But it was the Vega and that was the last time I ever saw it.

#99 Vintage Racer

  Everything went well in regards to the things that went wrong last weekend.  But this weekend the car was faster.  Making the RPM's higher and she came apart.  I must of looked like a foul out there scrubing the speedy dri into the oil with a broom.  We were the only ones at the track.  Sharpy #1 got the track for us Sat.  Now I need a motor and get it painted.  Oh well thats racing!  June 18th at the Mountain speedway is the 1st event I was going to try and make this summer with the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club.  We'll see what happens.      2nd Practice for the #99 Valiant Replica.

I'll get it out and apart Mon. night,  see what happened.  But I have a couple of leads on some nice short blocks.  Bob Stapleton has one all ready to go.  I can only imagine what that is for a price?  Dennis Balmer and Billy Gill stopped today and said bring the body up and Dennis will do the body work.  I might make it June 18th after all.  Nice
