#99 Bodine Replica anybody want to see the progress?

[#99 Vintage Racer]

This car is going to local shows, and vintage racing.  If the group I run with are rough riders, then we'll run in  the back.  No plans on the need to win at vintage events.  Just show off a piece of modified racing history and have fun!    Can't wait!    Thats my plan anyways.

Maynard also debuted the car that would start the so called "pinto revolution" at Lancaster on opening day in 1972 I believe.  ;D

I liked Maynard too but I think Bob Judkins  2x  (sp) with Ed Flemke ,driving started the pinto revoltion in New England.

Maynard took it to another level with his cars.

They were works of art.

Bob Judkins brought out his #2x Pinto in 1971 for the "revolution/change" to newer Modified body styles.

KT  - I Think the #99 Bodine coupe was originally a Rochester-based car built by the Marrinucci's (formerly raced Late Models). I don't think they ever raced it. I may be wrong on this - does anyone else have any memories of this car?

Terry, I think that would be Bob and George Marinucci, they were involved with Steve Fleischer and the modified  #32 at some time also.............I was pretty sure that Geoff had an indepenent front end before MT did....MT debuted his in the summer of 1970, his first Falcon with chrome numerals.............

I'll throw in my fuzzy recollections. Rip will have to comment on this with help from TK.

I think some of the guys who had been running the bugs at Chemung came to Shangri-La in 1968. Bryan Osgood comes to mind, in Maynard Bodine's Valiant bodied car, which I think had a straight front axle with a big-block Mopar motor. That year, 1968, was the last for the narrower, taller slicks, like on Geoff's #99 white coupe shown above. I think this car was numbered 44 and had been driven by Frank Chapman prior to Geoff taking over. Anyway, the wider, low-profile steamroller tires came in during 1969. Geoff's Valiant was then built over the 1969-1970 winter and debuted that Spring. What a time that was where a person's imagination, creativity, and fabrication abilities, and not so much how much money they had to spend, took them far.

always a BIG fan of "Unique" & ever since the 1st time i laid eyes on that MOD &/or the very few like it...Heck they just Bled Unique all over the Track & to see Geoff sittin in it in that Pic on the 1st Page HOW COOL IS THAT !...id like to see Spence fit into a MOD today LOL  :-X

Andy Romano also had a Valiant or Lancer Mod #97. Not sure but it may have been Lazzaro's old car. Andy was always somewhat under-rated in my mind. He won on both pavement and Dirt and did most of the mechanicals himself. Plus he was a fun guy to talk to! Great job on the car Rip! Here's a long shot of Bodine at the National open in the coupe.
