I don't think you can make it as a direct comparison.

The earlier NH race had 38 cars.  This one was 250 laps; that is a lot of laps on a mile long track.

Also - there are some who won't run the tour because of all the requirements to make the car (or team) NASCAR legal.

Yea that is true see you at Evergreen

It cost BIG $$$ to run the Musket if you are serious about winning it.  We used 16 tires in that race and I don't know how much gas but over 50 gallons

when you figure practice, tt and the race. The top teams have cars and/or engines just for this race. 25K is for the winner but most there that day lost

money.  The Turkey derby is for "normal" racers ::).  NASCAR is expensive any way you cut it.    Now..as a fan....the Musket is worth the cost of going

as the Modified racing at NH has no equal. And this from someone who's not particularly a fan of that organization. It's my humble opinion that the

Whelen Tour at NH is NASCAR's best product...ANYWHERE.

"UM", it's been quite a while, since I was personally involved in a modified. At the time that I was, tires were about $115 each. What are they now?

And 16 tires, whatever their cost, has to be one HEFTY tire bill.

I was at Spencer's, for the recent Maynard Troyer Memorial race, and even though it was only 60 laps, on a half-mile track, I saw a lot of instances of several "stickers" being installed on a number of cars, more than once, during the evening. In that respect, "major kudos" to Ken Troyer, for his efforts in getting a TON of lap money, which wet a long way in helping the racers' expenses.

NYS mod tires $208 / Tri Track we pay $177 , I think we pay $170 for Turkey Derby tires.. hope this helps..

Thank you!

(bottom line, that's a fair chunk of change, but percentage wise, not as much a jump over the mid-80s prices as I might have thought....)

Big dollars indeed.  According to an article in Area Auto Racing News about the Catalano family, teams were allowed to purchase up to 24 tires (!!) at $160 each.
