The NASCAR circus heads to South Beach FL to tackle Homestead-Miami Speedway for the sixth points race on the 2025 schedule. Let's get right to the talking points:
1.) This 1.5-mile track has always been like a giant piece of sandpaper on tires (second only to the more notorious Darlington). So, drivers who know how to take care of their equipment will have a definite advantage on the way to victory. Beginning in 2002, the track played host to the season's final race. Ford sponsored all three Series Championships for the weekend. Disappointingly, the "Blue Oval" brass was forced to watch other manufacturers rack up more victories (especially in the Cup series), which couldn't have sat very well in the Monday morning boardroom meetings!)
2.) It has been a mystery why many veteran drivers have yet to hoist the hardware. Kyle Larson is long overdue, but he has performed well at this track so he might (once again) find Victory Lane for the first time this season. William Byron is another of the Bowtie Brigade who could add to his win total this weekend.
3.) Another driver who has had bad luck this year is Denny Hamlin. Will he bust out this weekend? I wouldn't be surprised if it happens!
4.) For the last few races, I've been beating the drum about Ty Gibbs being on the verge of a visit to the starter's stand to grab a checkered flag. I still think it's coming!
5.) If a Ford wins the race, most likely it will be Ryan Blaney. He should have had a win by now as well.
6.) Chase Elliott has only won one race this year and that was at The Clash at Bowman-Gray Stadium exhibition race...Could he get back to his winning ways?
Other interesting items: 1.A) There is/was a grass fire around the general area of the track, which public officials have said it will not affect racing activities at HMS. Only a 3-hour visit to Key West might be in jeopardy!
